Joanna presents “live history lessons,” in schools, universities, museums, festivals and churches nationwide.

“I love performing "live history" lessons for all ages. Storytelling is
my passion. Each of the women I portray is an inspiration for me. It’s
my hope that others will also be encouraged, inspired and touched by these women who overcame obstacles to achieve and succeed.”

I discovered my love for the arts at an early age. I grew up in Bainbridge GA singing in my church choir.

For the talent competition of the Miss Bainbridge Contest I recited "The Creation,” by James Weldon Johnson and I was hooked. I performed “The Creation,” at every church in town.

After college I was a featured soloist at Six Flags over GA for two seasons.

I toured with the Alliance Children’s Theatre “Umbrella Players” and the Flat Rock Playhouse in North Carolina. I’ve done numerous national television and radio commercials, and corporate videos but none have been as rewarding as storytelling.

If you ask my husband and three sons they will tell you that Mom has
always been a storyteller. Yes it’s true I followed my sons to school and
read stories to their class. I loved it. When I walked down the halls
the children would say, "You're the storyteller."
After being a volunteer storyteller for 10 years God gave me laid it on my heart that I should do something special for the children for Black History Month. I put Harriet in my file for three years until my friend Joyce Harrison, a teacher, implored me to get Harriet out of the file and come to her school. That was five years ago.”
